Courtesy of Republic of Korea Air Force</p></div></div><p class="editor-p">The U.S. government has authorized a potential sale to Korea of Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) precision bombs and related equipment to bolster the Asian ally’s defense capabilities.</p><p class="editor-p">The Foreign Military Sale notification outlines an estimated cost of $106 million and notes that the transaction requires congressional review and approval.</p><p class="editor-p">Korea has requested 708 KMU-557 JDAM tail kits, 58 KMU-572 JDAM guidance sets, and additional items including weapons support equipment and related engineering, technical, and logistics services.</p><p class="editor-p">The sale is intended to enhance Korea’s ability to address current and future threats, expand its air defense capacity in the region, and ensure interoperability with U.S. forces, according to the department.</p><p class="editor-p">The principal contractor for the deal is identified as The Boeing Company, based in Arlington, Virginia.</p><p class="editor-p"></p>
<br><hr><br>미 정부는 한국에 대한 JDAM 정밀 폭탄 및 관련 장비의 잠재적 판매를 승인했다고 국무부가 월요일 밝혔다. 이는 동맹국의 방어 능력을 강화하는 데 도움이 될 것이라고 국무부는 설명했다.
국무부는 1억6천만 달러 규모로 추정되는 잠재적 정부 간 판매(FMS) 결정과 이를 위한 의회 통보 및 심사를 발표했다.
한국은 708개의 KMU-557 JDAM 테일 키트, 58개의 KMU-572 JDAM 유도 세트 및 무기 지원 장비와 미국 정부 및 계약업체의 엔지니어링, 기술 및 물류 지원 서비스 등 다른 품목들을 구입하길 요청했다고 국무부는 밝혔다.
“제안된 판매는 지역 내 중요한 방공 능력을 확장하고 미국 군대와의 상호 운용성을 보장함으로써 현재 및 미래 위협에 대응하는 한국의 능력을 향상시킬 것”이라고 국무부는 말했다.
무기 판매의 주 계약자는 버지니아주 알링턴에 위치한 보잉 회사가 될 예정이라고 밝혔다.
