They will receive funding and support to implement AI-focused education and related transformations.</p><p class="editor-p">The initiative aims to upgrade university education systems around AI by leveraging existing software education infrastructure to meet rising industry demand for AI talent.</p><p class="editor-p">Each selected university will be allocated up to 24 billion won ($17 million) over eight years, roughly 3 billion won annually.</p><p class="editor-p">Requirements include establishing a presidential-level task force for AI and AI transformation education, introducing AI convergence bridge courses, providing basic and applied AI education to all students, and developing industry-linked project work.</p><p class="editor-p">Three additional AI-focused universities are expected to be selected in June from institutions not currently in the software-centered program.</p><p class="editor-p">The minister cited AI’s rapid spread across sectors and daily life as a reason for transforming university education to center on AI, with a commitment to support universities in advancing AI education and expanding educational value in local communities.</p><p class="editor-p"></p>
<br><hr><br><p>과학기술정보통신부는 화요일 10개 학교 중 7개 대학을 선정해 새로운 “AI 중심 대학” 이니셔티브 아래 인공지능(AI) 인재 양성을 주도하도록 했다.</p>
<p>선정된 대학은 가천대학교, 고려대학교, 서강대학교, 성균관대학교, 순천향대학교, 숭실대학교, 연세대학교로, 기존 소프트웨어 중심의 대학 프로그램에서 AI 중심 모델로 전환한다.</p>
<p>이 이니셔티브는 참여 대학에 이미 구축된 소프트웨어 교육 인프라를 활용해 AI를 중심으로 대학 교육 체계를 업그레이드하고, 산업 전반에서 증가하는 AI 인재 수요에 대응하는 것을 목표로 한다.</p>
<p>선정 대학 각각은 8년간 최대 240억원(약 1700만 달러)을 받게 되며, 연간 약 30억원에 해당한다.</p>
<p>프로그램 하에 대학은 AI 및 AI 전환 교육을 담당할 전 President급 태스크포스를 설치하고, AI 융합 교양 과정 도입, 모든 학생에게 기초 및 응용 AI 교육을 제공하며, 산업 연계 문제 해결 프로젝트를 개발해야 한다.</p>
<p>부처는 기존 소프트웨어 중심 대학 프로그램에 포함되지 않은 학교 중에서 6월에 추가로 세 곳의 AI 중심 대학을 선정할 계획이다.</p>
<p>배경으로, 차관 겸 과학기술정보통신부 장관 배경훈은 “AI가 산업 전반과 일상에 빠르게 확산되고 있어 대학 교육도 AI를 중심으로 새로운 변화가 필요하다”고 말했다.</p>
