A quartet of Korean-born players in a league-backed team said they are fired up for a homecoming in May, aiming to give fans a memorable showing as the tour makes its second appearance in Korea.
The Korean Golf Club team is captained by An Byeong-hun and includes Danny Lee, Kim Min-kyu and Song Young-han. Lee is the only carryover from the previous lineup.
In a bid to appeal more to the Korean market, the group was rebranded with a new logo and roundel reflecting Korean culture as it broadened its appeal; An was brought in from another major tour, while Kim and Song joined from the Korean and Japanese circuits, respectively.
The league plans to return to Korea for a second consecutive year with a May 28-31 event at a Busan venue.
"Obviously, our priority is a great golf. We would like to show fans what we're capable of with some exciting and interesting golf. That's what we're here for," An said. "We want to grow. We want to grow the Korean Golf Club in Korea. We have a lot of fans out there supporting us, and hopefully, we can make this tournament as big as we can."
Song and Kim echoed the sentiment, saying nothing would please home fans more than a strong showing.
Lee, who competed in the league's Korea tournament in Incheon last year, said the new captain would bring passion to Korean golf fans and that the tournament course would differ from last year's venue, offering a different style of golf the audience could watch, and that the team hopes to deliver something special.
All four players are seeking a spark this season. The team ranked last among 13 teams with 18.75 points through the Mexico tournament; An is the top performer on the group circuit with a 34th-place finish and one top-10, while Lee, Song and Kim have yet to post a top-10.
The Busan venue has previously hosted major women’s championship golf events and a golf competition during a major Asian multi-sport event, underscoring its suitability for a high-profile tour stop.
The league announced a multiyear agreement with the Busan venue in January.
The tournament will be held amid reports that the sovereign wealth fund backing the league may withdraw its investments after this season.

리 선수는 예전 아이언 헤즈 골프 클럽으로 불리던 팀의 남은 유일한 선수이며, 한국 시장 공략 강화를 위한 노력의 일환으로 안병훈을 다른 투어에서 영입하고 한국과 일본 투어의 베테랑인 김민규와 송영한도 영입했다. 한국 골프 클럽은 또한 한국 문화를 반영하는 새로운 로고와 원형 배지를 채용했다.
사우디 계열 공적 투자 기금의 지원을 받는 투어가 올해도 한국에서 두 번째 연속 방문 일정으로, 5월 28일부터 31일까지 동남부에 위치한 부산의 골프장에서 대회를 개최한다.
“물론 우리의 최우선 과제는 훌륭한 골프입니다. 팬들에게 우리가 보여줄 수 있는 흥미롭고 멋진 골프를 보여주고자 합니다. 이것이 우리가 이 자리에 있는 이유입니다,” 안이 말했다. “우리는 성장하고 싶습니다. 한국에서 한국 골프 클럽을 성장시키고 싶습니다. 우리를 응원하는 팬이 많고, 이 대회를 최대한으로 크게 만들 수 있기를 바랍니다.”
송영한과 김민규도 안의 의견에 공감하며, 자국 팬들을 더 잘 만족시킬 수 있는 방법은 강한 대회라고 말했다.
작년 5월 서해안의 인천에서 열린 대회에 참가한 리 선수는 이번 대회에 대한 관심이 더 커질 것으로 본다고 말했다.
“새로운 한국인 캡틴이 생겼고, 이것이 한국 골프 팬들에게 큰 열정을 가져다줄 것”이라고 리가 말했다. “지난해 인천에서 열린 대회와 비교해 코스가 매우 달라질 것이라고 들었고, 사람들이 보는 골프의 스타일도 달라질 것이다. 우리 팀이 그에 맞춰 멋진 성과를 만들어 내길 바란다.”
네 명의 선수 모두 이번 대회로 시즌에 활력을 불어넣는 계기가 될 수 있다.
해당 투어는 개인 및 팀 순위를 모두 추적한다. 이번 주말 멕시코 대회를 거치며 한국 골프 클럽은 13개 팀 중 최하위로 18.75점을 기록했다. 개인 성적으로는 안병훈이 팀의 최고 성적으로 34위에 자리했고 한 차례의 톱-10 진입을 기록했다. 리, 송, 김은 이번 시즌 아직 톱-10에 진입하지 못했다.
해당 골프장은 과거 여러 차례의 주요 대회를 개최한 적이 있다.
해당 대회 주최 측은 1월에 부산의 개최지와 다년 계약에 합의했다고 밝혔다.
이번 대회는 이번 시즌 이후 이 투어에 대한 자금 지원이 중단될 것이라는 보도가 나오는 가운데 열릴 예정이다.
