A documentary following Korean violinist Kim Bomsori as she revives a long-forgotten composition won the Jury Grand Prix for Best Documentary at a French festival.
The film "Bacewicz x Bomsori" won the Jury Grand Prix for Best Documentary Film at the ONE Country ONE Film Festival earlier this month.
The France-based festival focuses on documentary cinema and cultural storytelling, highlighting diverse human stories from around the world. The Jury Grand Prix is the festival's highest honor.
Directed by Polish filmmaker Jakub Piatek, the documentary closely follows Kim as she prepares to perform "Polish Rhapsody for Violin and Orchestra" by Grazyna Bacewicz (1909-69), a work that remained unpublished and was largely forgotten for many years.
The film conveys Kim’s commitment to reviving this overlooked composition, revealing not only her artistic discipline and musical insight, but also her deep engagement with the composer’s life, historical context and creative voice as she brings Bacewicz’s music into the present day.
“Delving deeply into Bacewicz’s music and life brought me great learning and joy, and I hope this film, which reflects that process, resonates with many more people,” Kim said.

Kim is an internationally acclaimed Korean violinist who rose to prominence after winning Second Prize at the International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in 2016, and has earned recognitions at other major competitions including the Queen Elisabeth, International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition, International Joseph Joachim Violin Competition and Montreal International Musical Competition.
Renowned for refined musicality, she has performed on major stages worldwide and collaborated with leading orchestras and conductors. Her discography includes releases on a major classical label.

김 봄소리는 2016년 폴란드의 국제 헨리크 비에니에프스키 바이올린 대회에서 2위를 차지했고, Queen Elisabeth 대회, 국제 시벨리우스 바이올린 대회, 국제 조엥 Joachim 바이올린 대회, 몬트리올 국제 음악 대회 등에서 수상 경력을 쌓아 국제적으로 주목받아 왔다.
