The host nation, Korea, fell short of qualifying for the semifinals of the LPGA match-play competition on Saturday, held on the outskirts of Seoul.
Korea failed to secure a win for the second consecutive day at the International Crown, finishing with a tie and a loss in two fourball contests against Japan at the New Korea Country Club in Goyang, located just northwest of the capital.
With the top two teams from Pools A and B advancing to the semifinals scheduled for Sunday morning, Korea ended up third in Pool B with 2 1/2 points. The World Team, composed of players from countries not already qualified for the event, topped the group with four points, while Japan followed closely with three points. Sweden also finished with 2 1/2 points.
In the match involving Kim Hyo-joo and Choi Hye-jin, the duo lost to Japan's Mao Saigo and Miyu Yamashita 1-up after Kim missed a short birdie putt on the 18th hole. Korea initially led 3-up after Choi birdied the par-5 eighth hole, but the Japanese team responded with consecutive birdies from Saigo on the ninth and tenth holes, narrowing the gap. Saigo's birdie on the 16th hole tied the match, and Yamashita's birdie on the 18th, coupled with Kim's miss, completed Japan's comeback.
In another Korea-Japan match on Saturday, Ko Jin-young and Ryu Hae-ran managed a tie against Ayaka Furue and Rio Takeda. The Japanese team was 2-up through 11 holes, but Korea won the next two holes with birdies from Ryu. The teams then matched birdies and pars for the remainder of the contest, resulting in each side earning a half point.
Over the course of three days of fourball matches, Korea achieved just one victory, alongside two losses and three ties. This outcome marks another missed opportunity for Korea, which also failed to reach the semifinals at the previous International Crown in 2023.
The World Team includes players such as Lydia Ko from New Zealand, Charley Hull from England, Brooke Henderson from Canada, and Hsu Wei-Ling from Chinese Taipei.
In Pool A, the United States secured a semifinal spot after winning its first four matches through Friday. The American team, consisting of Yealimi Noh, Angel Yin, Lauren Coughlin, and Lilia Vu, won and tied against Australia on Saturday, finishing Pool A with 5 1/2 points.
Australia, featuring Minjee Lee, Grace Kim, Stephanie Kyriacou, and Hannah Green, advanced to the semifinals with 2 1/2 points, edging out both Thailand and China by half a point.
The semifinals, scheduled for Sunday morning, will see the U.S. face Japan and the World Team compete against Australia. Each semifinal match will consist of two singles matches and one foursome match, where teammates alternate hitting shots until the hole is completed.
The third-place match and the final, taking place in the afternoon, will follow the same format as the semifinals.
With the defending champion Thailand eliminated from contention, the International Crown will not have a back-to-back winner in its fifth edition. The U.S., the 2016 champion, has the opportunity to become the first multiple winner of this competition, while Korea won the event in 2018 as the inaugural host.
The winning team will receive a prize of $500,000, with each player taking home $125,000.

호주는 민지 리, 그레이스 김, 스테파니 카이리아쿠, 한나 그린으로 구성된 팀이 2.5점을 기록하며 준결승에 진출했고, 태국과 중국은 그 뒤를 0.5점 차로 따랐다.
예정된 일요일 오전의 준결승에서는 미국이 일본과, 월드 팀이 호주와 경기를 치른다.
모든 준결승 매치는 두 개의 단식 경기와 하나의 포섬 경기로 구성되며, 여기서 두 팀원은 차례로 샷을 하여 주어진 홀이 완료될 때까지 진행된다.
일요일 오후에 열리는 3위 결정전과 결승전 역시 준결승과 동일한 형식으로 진행된다.
수비 챔피언 태국이 탈락함에 따라, 국제 크라운은 다섯 번째 대회에서 다시 연속 우승자가 등장하지 않게 되었다. 2016년 챔피언인 미국은 이 대회에서 처음으로 복수의 우승을 기록할 기회를 가지게 된다. 한국은 2018년 대회를 첫 개최지로서 우승을 차지했다.
