The lawyer for a Yangpyeong County official who died last week following questioning by the special counsel investigating former first lady Kim Keon Hee announced plans to file a complaint against the special counsel investigators for abuse of power and other charges.
During a news conference at a memorial altar in downtown Seoul, the lawyer stated that he has requested a review and copy of the interrogation records of his client and intends to sue the investigators for alleged illegal probing, abuse of power, cruel acts, and forgery of official documents.
The deceased official, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found dead at his home last Friday, eight days after being interrogated by special counsel investigators regarding potential improper benefits received by Kim's family from a land development project in Yangpyeong, located 52 kilometers east of Seoul.
Reports indicate that the official left behind 21 pages of handwritten notes expressing complaints about coercion and pressure from investigators. The notes reportedly detail the psychological distress he experienced during questioning and allegations that investigators attempted to persuade him to testify that he had acted under the direction of former Yangpyeong County head Kim Sun-gyo, who is currently a lawmaker for the main opposition party.
In response, the opposition party has criticized the special counsel team for conducting what they describe as a coercive and illegal investigation aimed at achieving a predetermined outcome.
The lawyer further claimed that his client had informed him prior to his death that the interrogation records prepared by the special counsel contained false information. He alleged that the official was coerced into making a statement suggesting collusion with the PPP lawmaker to provide unfair development favors to the former first lady's family.

변호사 박경호는 서울 시내 특별검사 민중기 사무실 앞에 설치된 추모 공간에서 열린 기자회견에서 이 같은 내용을 밝혔다.
박 변호사는 특별검사팀에 클라이언트의 심문 기록 검토 및 사본 요청을 했으며, 권력 남용, 잔인한 행위, 공문서 위조 등의 이유로 불법 수사를 실시한 혐의로 조사관들을 고소할 계획이라고 밝혔다.
신원이 밝혀지지 않은 고인은 지난 금요일 자택에서 발견되었으며, 이는 특별검사 조사로부터 8일 후의 일이었다. 이번 조사는 김건희씨가 양평에서의 토지 개발 사업에서 부당한 혜택을 받았는지를 조사하기 위한 것이었다.
고인은 압박감과 조사관들로부터의 강요에 대한 불만을 담은 21페이지의 자필 노트를 남긴 것으로 전해졌다. 노트에는 심문 중 느꼈던 심리적 고통과 조사관들이 그에게 전 양평군수 김선교 의원의 지시를 따랐다고 증언하도록 설득했던 내용이 담겨 있다고 한다.
이에 대해 국민의힘은 특별검사팀이 원하는 결론을 유도하기 위해 강압적이고 불법적인 조사를 시행했다고 비판했다.
박 변호사는 클라이언트가 사망 전 특별검사팀이 준비한 심문 기록에 허위 정보가 포함되어 있다고 구체적으로 밝혔다고 전했다.
이어 그는 고인이 김 의원과 공모해 전직 영부인 가족에게 부당한 개발 특혜를 제공했다는 내용을 진술하도록 강요당했다고 주장했다.
