A court accepted a request Saturday from the former head of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) to be released from detention.
A judge at the Seoul Southern District Court granted the request for release, stating that the arrest is "not justified at this stage." The former KCC chief filed for a court review of her detention the previous day.
She was taken into custody earlier in the week on suspicion of violating the Election Law and breaching political neutrality. The former KCC chief is accused of making partisan remarks on conservative YouTube channels in September of the previous year.
The remarks were alleged to be in violation of the Election Law, as they were aimed at obstructing the election of a presidential candidate at that time.

서울남부지방법원의 한 판사는 이 씨의 구속 해제 요청을 승인하며, 그녀의 구속은 "현재로서는 정당화되지 않는다"고 밝혔다. 이 씨는 전날 구속에 대한 법원 심사를 신청했다.
이 씨는 선거법 위반 및 정치적 중립 위반 혐의로 이번 주 초에 구속되었다. 전 KCC 위원장은 지난해 9월 보수 유튜브 채널에서 편향된 발언을 하여 정치적 중립을 위반한 혐의를 받고 있다.
이 발언은 당시 대통령 후보였던 이재명이 당선되는 것을 방해할 목적이 있었다며 선거법 위반으로도 간주되었다.
