S-Oil held its annual charity event, “Sharing Songpyeon with S-Oil,” at its headquarters in Mapo District ahead of the Chuseok holiday, the company announced on Tuesday.
Chuseok, one of the country's major traditional holidays, is celebrated on October 3 this year and is commonly associated with songpyeon, a half-moon-shaped rice cake.
The event, co-hosted with the Loveaid Foundation Community Welfare Center, featured CEO Anwar Al-Hejazi and approximately 100 employees who prepared 500 Chuseok gift packages valued at a total of 60 million won ($44,000). These packages were distributed to low-income households in the nearby Gongdeok-dong area.
Additionally, Saudi Arabian students studying in Korea and children from the company’s day care center participated in the event, engaging with community members.
Al-Hejazi expressed the significance of Chuseok, stating, “I understand that Chuseok is a special holiday in Korea for sharing warm affection with neighbors. S-Oil wishes to convey comfort and hope to underprivileged neighbors in the local community with heartfelt warmth. I hope everyone enjoys a happy Chuseok holiday.”
S-Oil has organized the songpyeon-sharing event every Chuseok since 2007.
S-Oil은 추석 명절을 앞두고 마포구 본사에서 연례 자선 행사인 “S-Oil과 함께하는 송편 나누기”를 열었다고 회사는 화요일 밝혔다.
올해 추석은 10월 3일로, 한국의 대표적인 전통 명절 중 하나이며 송편이라는 반달 모양의 떡으로 자주 기념된다.
이 행사는 사랑나눔재단과 공동 주최하였으며, CEO인 안와르 알헤자지와 약 100명의 직원들이 참여하여 총 6천만 원(44,000달러) 상당의 500개의 추석 선물 패키지를 준비했다. 이 패키지는 인근 공덕동의 저소득 가구에 전달되었다.
한국에서 공부 중인 사우디아라비아 학생들과 회사의 어린이집 아이들도 참여하여 지역 주민들과 시간을 보냈다.
알헤자지 CEO는 “추석은 이웃과 따뜻한 정을 나누는 특별한 명절이라는 것을 이해하고 있다”며 “S-Oil은 지역 사회의 소외된 이웃에게 진심 어린 따뜻함과 위로, 희망을 전달하고자 한다. 모두가 행복한 추석을 즐기길 바란다”고 말했다.
S-Oil은 2007년부터 매년 추석 송편 나누기 행사를 개최해왔다.
