As the 2025 Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) regular season enters its final two weeks, the Hanwha Eagles are attempting to challenge the LG Twins for first place, a scenario considered unlikely at the beginning of September.
At the start of the month, the Eagles were 5 1/2 games behind the Twins. However, as the Twins began to struggle, the Eagles managed to close the gap to 2 1/2 games on Saturday, only to fall back to 3 1/2 games behind on Sunday with 12 games remaining in the season. Currently, the Eagles hold a record of 76-53-3, while the Twins are at 80-50-3.
The Eagles will play on Monday, a typical off day for the league, due to a previous rainout, marking the beginning of an eight-day stretch of consecutive games.
Following a three-game home series against the Kiwoom Heroes in Daejeon on Monday, the Eagles will head to Gwangju for three games against the Kia Tigers, and then travel to Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, for two games against the KT Wiz.
In contrast, the Twins have a lighter schedule this week, with only four games and minimal travel. They are set to face the Wiz in Suwon from Tuesday to Thursday before returning home to host the Samsung Lions in Seoul on Saturday.
Historically, the Eagles may face an uphill battle. The Twins became the first team this season to reach 80 wins, a milestone that has historically favored teams in the regular season and Korean Series championships. Of the previous 20 occasions when a team has reached 80 wins first, they have won the regular-season title 19 times and the Korean Series 15 times.
Despite their pursuit of the Twins, the Eagles maintain a solid 8 1/2-game lead over the third-place SSG Landers, who are currently at 66-60-4, making it unlikely for the Eagles to drop out of second place.
The Landers lead a competitive middle tier, with five teams vying for the last three postseason spots. The KT Wiz, trailing the Landers by 1 1/2 games in fourth place, hold a record of 66-63-4. The Samsung Lions occupy the final playoff spot, just one game behind the Wiz at 66-65-2.
Following them are the Lotte Giants in sixth place, a half game back at 64-64-6, and the NC Dinos in seventh, 1 1/2 games back at 61-63-6. The Kia Tigers are three games out of contention, having played even last week and only gaining a half game on fifth place. With 13 games left, the chances for the defending champions to retain their title appear to be diminishing rapidly.

랜더스는 치열한 중위권 싸움에서 앞서 있으며, 5개 팀이 마지막 3개의 포스트시즌 진출권을 두고 경쟁하고 있다.
