Samsung Electronics discussed the future of artificial intelligence (AI) at its annual academic forum, where it hosted renowned scholars and technology leaders in deep learning and language processing, the company announced on Monday.
The two-day Samsung AI Forum 2025 runs until Tuesday. Now in its ninth year, it brings together global scholars and industry experts to share the latest insights into AI technology and explore future research directions.
Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Jun Young-hyun emphasized the firm’s commitment to advancing its AI technologies across diverse business areas. He stated, “Samsung is applying AI across our operations to develop foundational technologies that make AI more intuitive and seamless.”
This year’s forum features leading experts from industry and academia discussing how AI is transforming society and industry, aiming for a meaningful exchange of ideas.
Invited speakers include Yoshua Bengio, a computer science professor at the University of Montreal and a pioneer in deep learning, and Joseph Gonzalez, a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, who specializes in large language models and agentic AI systems.
Under the event's main theme — Vertical AI Strategies and Vision for the Semiconductor Industry — Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions division hosted the first day of the forum at its education facility in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
Bengio raised concerns about the risks associated with modern AI models, suggesting that AI could bypass human control. He introduced a new model called Scientist AI, which aims to provide truthful answers based on verified facts and data.
Amit Gupta, senior vice president at Siemens EDA, highlighted the importance of integrating AI into electronic design automation tools, stating that end-to-end systems will be key to unlocking AI's full potential.
The second day of the forum will be held online, focusing on the theme: From Generative to Agentic AI. Agentic AI refers to systems capable of autonomous decision-making and task execution.
Cheun Kyung-whoon, chief technology officer at Samsung Electronics’ Device Experience division, noted that generative AI has become essential in daily life and various industries. He affirmed that as the era of Agentic AI begins, Samsung will continue to develop technologies that provide users with tangible benefits.
Speakers for the second day include Subbarao Kambhampati, a professor at Arizona State University, and Stanford University professor Stefano Ermon.

그는 또한 “올해의 삼성 AI 포럼은 산업과 학계의 주요 전문가들이 사회와 산업을 어떻게 변화시키고 있는지를 논의하고, 의미 있는 아이디어 교환이 이루어질 것으로 기대된다”고 말했다.
포럼의 초청 연사에는 몬트리올 대학교의 컴퓨터 과학 교수인 요슈아 벵地오와 캘리포니아 대학교 버클리 캠퍼스의 조지프 곤잘레스가 포함된다. 벵地오는 세계적인 심층 학습의 선구자로 잘 알려져 있으며, 곤잘레스는 대형 언어 모델 및 에이전틱 AI 시스템의 전문가다.
이 행사의 주요 주제인 반도체 산업을 위한 수직 AI 전략과 비전 하에 삼성전자의 기기 솔루션 부서는 경기도 용인에 위치한 교육 시설에서 포럼의 첫 번째 날을 주최했다.
벵地오는 현대 AI 모델이 인간의 통제를 우회할 위험에 대한 우려를 제기하며 이러한 위험에 대한 잠재적인 안전 장치로 ‘과학자 AI’라는 새로운 모델을 소개했다. 그는 “인간을 모방하거나 기쁘게 하도록 설계된 모델과는 달리, 과학자 AI는 검증된 사실과 데이터에 근거하여 진실한 답변을 제공하는 데 초점을 맞춘다”고 말했다.
Siemens EDA의 수석 부사장 아밋 굽타는 발표 중 전자 설계 자동화 도구에 AI를 통합하는 것의 중요성을 강조하며, 전체 워크플로우 동안 작동하는 종단 간 시스템이 AI의 모든 잠재력을 열기 위한 열쇠가 될 것이라고 밝혔다.
포럼의 두 번째 날은 ‘생성적 AI에서 에이전틱 AI까지’라는 주제로 온라인으로 진행될 예정이다. 에이전틱 AI는 자율적으로 결정을 내리고 작업을 수행할 수 있는 AI 시스템을 의미한다.
삼성전자 기기 경험 부문의 최고 기술 책임자이자 삼성 리서치의 책임자인 천경훈은 생성적 AI가 사람들의 일상생활과 많은 산업에서 이미 필수 도구가 되었다고 말했다. 그는 “우리가 에이전틱 AI 시대에 접어들면서 삼성은 사용자에게 가시적인 이익을 제공하는 AI 기술 개발에 계속 집중할 것”이라고 덧붙였다.
행사의 두 번째 날 연사로는 애리조나 주립대학교의 AI 계획 및 의사 결정 전문가인 수바라오 캄밤파티 교수와 스탠포드 대학교의 스테파노 에르몬 교수가 초청된다.
