President Lee Jae Myung defended Prime Minister nominee Kim Min-seok on Sunday, urging opposition lawmakers to allow him the opportunity to clarify the controversies surrounding his appointment. This statement was made during a luncheon with leaders of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) and the main opposition People Power Party (PPP).
The luncheon took place at the presidential residence in Yongsan District and was attended by DPK floor leader Kim Byung-kee, PPP interim leader Kim Yong-tae, and PPP floor leader Song Eon-seog. It commenced at noon and lasted for an hour and 45 minutes.
During the meeting, opposition leadership expressed serious concerns regarding the prime minister nominee, highlighting issues in his background and alleged misconduct during the confirmation process. Woo Sang-ho, the presidential secretary for political affairs, conveyed that President Lee believes it is appropriate to wait for Kim's explanations during the upcoming confirmation hearing.
