The National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee has adopted a resolution honoring former U.S. Congressman Charles Rangel for his service during the Korean War and his long-standing efforts to strengthen the alliance between South Korea and the United States.
The resolution, which received support from 69 lawmakers across both ruling and opposition parties, pays tribute to Rangel's legacy in bolstering the alliance and promoting peace on the Korean Peninsula.
The National Assembly expressed its deep respect for Rangel's dedication to defending the freedom and peace of South Korea against North Korea's unlawful invasion on June 25, 1950, as stated in the resolution.
Additionally, lawmakers conveyed their condolences over Rangel's passing and pledged to uphold the values and spirit of the alliance that he championed throughout his career.
During his tenure in Congress, Rangel played a significant role in legislative efforts addressing various Korea-related issues, including promoting peace and reunification on the Korean Peninsula and supporting reunions of divided Korean American families.
