Hanwha Aerospace announced that it has signed a follow-up contract worth 623.2 billion won ($459.3 million) with the state defense procurement agency to supply engines for Korea's next-generation KF-21 fighter jets. This agreement with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) enhances a previous engine supply contract valued at 556.2 billion won signed last year, increasing the total contract value to 1.18 trillion won.
Under the new contract, Hanwha Aerospace will deliver 80 units of F414 engines for the initial mass-produced batch of KF-21 jets by December 2028. The agreement also encompasses logistics support, which includes maintenance parts, technical manuals, and on-site technical assistance.
Hanwha Aerospace has a long history of involvement in Korean military aviation projects, having produced over 10,000 engines for various fighter jets, including the KF-5, KF-16, and F-15K, since 1979. To strengthen its high-tech engine division, the company has invested 40 billion won to establish a smart factory specifically for jet engine production.
Officials from Hanwha Aerospace emphasized their commitment to leveraging advanced aviation engine technology to ensure timely delivery and support for the KF-21 program.
한화 항공우주는 목요일 한국의 차세대 KF-21 전투기용 엔진 공급을 위해 국가 방위 조달 기관과 6,232억 원(4억 5,930만 달러) 규모의 후속 계약을 체결했다고 발표했다.
이번 계약은 1년 전에 체결된 5,562억 원 규모의 엔진 공급 계약을 기반으로 하여 총 계약 금액이 1조 1,800억 원에 이르게 된다.
한화 항공우주는 최신 계약을 통해 2028년 12월까지 KF-21 전투기 첫 양산 배치에 필요한 F414 엔진 80대를 납품할 예정이다.
이번 계약에는 정비 부품, 기술 매뉴얼, 현장 기술 지원 등 물류 지원도 포함되어 있다.
한화 항공우주는 1979년 이래 KF-5, KF-16, F-15K 등 한국 전투기용 엔진 1만 대 이상을 생산하며 한국 군의 항공 프로젝트에 오랜 역사를 가지고 있다.
회사는 고급 엔진 사업을 강화하기 위해 400억 원을 투자하여 제트 엔진 생산 전용 스마트 공장을 건설하고 있다.
“우리의 첨단 항공 엔진 기술을 바탕으로 한국에 신속하게 납품할 수 있도록 하겠다”고 전했다.
