Director Choi Yun-jin has addressed her dismissal from the film “Big Deal,” alleging workplace abuse by the production company The LAMP and its CEO. During a press conference in Seoul, Choi called for structural reform in the Korean film industry, emphasizing the importance of protecting creators from exploitation and unfair labor practices.
The conflict arose when The LAMP announced Choi's removal from the director's position, citing allegations of script appropriation. In response, Choi filed for an injunction to overturn her dismissal; however, a Seoul court rejected her request, allowing the film to be released domestically without her credited as the director.
Speaking publicly for the first time since the court ruling, Choi explained that she chose to remain silent during the film's theatrical run to avoid impacting the project negatively. She remarked, “For a director, a film is like a child. Now that the release is winding down, I can finally speak.”
Choi further accused CEO Park of long-standing abuse of power, recalling a statement in which Park suggested Choi should be pushed out of the film industry.

선고 이후 처음으로 공개 발언을 한 최 감독은 영화 상영 기간 동안 프로젝트에 부정적인 영향을 미치지 않기 위해 침묵을 유지했다고 밝혔다. “감독에게 영화는 자식과 같다”며, “이제 개봉이 마무리되어 드디어 이야기할 수 있다”고 말했다.
최 감독은 박 CEO의 오래된 권력 남용을 폭로하며 “그녀는 한때 내가 영화 산업에서 밀려나야 한다고 말했다”고 전했다.
