The committee was set to convene to discuss the report's adoption following a confirmation hearing conducted the previous day. Representative Lee Seong-kweun, a member of the main opposition People Power Party, indicated that the adoption was unlikely to occur, citing "unresolved suspicions" regarding Lee's views on North Korea and national security.
Additionally, the cancellation was linked to the opposition party's concerns regarding the ruling Democratic Party's management of National Assembly affairs. During the confirmation hearing, lawmakers from the PPP criticized Lee, a former unification minister and deputy national security adviser, for allegedly holding a policy stance that is overly lenient and submissive.
