Korea’s environment ministry will conduct a month-long test of ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot developed by OpenAI, before formally adopting the technology to enhance its operations later this year, officials announced on Sunday.
The ministry's 100-member team will begin utilizing various features of ChatGPT Plus, the paid version of ChatGPT, in their daily tasks starting Monday. This includes applications in data analysis, preparing presentation materials, and translating documents into multiple languages.
During the test period, officials are prohibited from entering sensitive information, such as personal data, in accordance with the ministry’s internal security regulations. Following the trial, feedback will be collected from the team regarding the AI tool's effectiveness and any concerns that arise.
The insights gained will be instrumental in evaluating the ministry's strategy for adopting AI technologies, with potential implementation starting in September. This initiative aligns with broader efforts by government ministries and agencies to leverage ChatGPT and similar technologies.

환경부에 따르면, 100명으로 구성된 팀은 월요일부터 업무에 ChatGPT Plus의 다양한 기능을 활용하기 시작할 계획이다. 이들 기능에는 데이터 분석, 프레젠테이션 자료 준비, 다국어 문서 번역 등이 포함된다.
하지만 테스트 기간 동안 관계자들은 내부 보안 규정에 따라 개인 데이터와 같은 민감한 정보를 입력할 수 없다고 밝혔다.
테스트 후에는 AI 도구가 업무에 유용했는지 및 우려 사항에 대한 피드백을 환경부에 제출할 예정이며, 이를 통해 AI 기술 도입 계획을 종합적으로 평가할 계획이다. AI 도입은 오는 9월부터 시작될 가능성이 있다.
이러한 움직임은 정부 부처와 기관들이 ChatGPT 및 기타 AI 기술을 활용할 방안을 모색하고 있는 가운데 이루어졌다.
