Former President Yoon Suk Yeol attended the seventh hearing of his insurrection trial on Monday without addressing inquiries regarding separate independent investigations into him and his wife.
Yoon appeared at the Seoul Central District Court to face charges of leading an insurrection and abusing his power through the imposition of martial law on December 3. This was his first trial hearing since his successor appointed three independent counsels to investigate various allegations, including those related to the martial law decision, corruption involving his wife, and suspected interference in a probe concerning a Marine's death in 2023.
Since their appointment last week, the independent counsels have been assembling their teams and securing office space for the investigations. Two witnesses, including an aide to the defense minister and an official from the former martial law command, are scheduled to testify later in the day.
If convicted of insurrection, Yoon faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment or death.

특별검사들은 지난주 임명된 이후 팀을 구성하고 사무실 공간을 검색하고 있다.
당일 증인으로는 국방부 보좌관과 전 계엄령 사령부 관계자가 불려 나와 증언할 예정이다.
반란죄로 유죄 판결을 받을 경우 윤 대통령은 최대 종신형 또는 사형에 처해질 수 있다.
