Korean Air Lines announced on Friday it will operate special mileage-exclusive flights between Seoul and Jeju, a popular southern resort island, from July to September. These flights will be scheduled on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays over three consecutive weeks each month, in response to the rising demand for domestic travel during the summer vacation season.
A total of 54 flights will be available for mileage redemption between July 4 and September 21. The airline will utilize an Airbus A330-300 aircraft for these services, which features prestige-class seating and has a capacity of 284 passengers.
This initiative is perceived as a strategy to promote mileage usage amid the ongoing integration of Korean Air's mileage system with that of Asiana Airlines, which is part of a merger process between the two airlines. On Thursday, the Fair Trade Commission in Korea rejected a proposed mileage integration plan from Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, citing concerns regarding inadequate details and consumer benefits.

항공사는 여름 휴가철에 국내 여행 수요 증가에 대한 대응으로 매주 금, 토, 일요일 3주 동안 김포-제주 노선을 운영할 예정이다. 특별 항공편은 오직 마일리지 사용을 위해 제공된다.
총 54편의 항공편이 7월 4일부터 9월 21일까지 운항되며, 항공기에는 284명의 승객을 수용할 수 있는 프레스티지 클래스 좌석이 있는 에어버스 A330-300이 배치될 예정이다.
업계 관측통들은 이 같은 조치를 대한항공과 아시아나항공의 마일리지 시스템 통합을 촉진하기 위한 노력으로 보고 있다. 지난 목요일, 한국의 공정거래위원회는 대한항공과 아시아나항공이 제출한 마일리지 통합 계획을 세부 사항 부족과 소비자 이익 우려를 이유로 거부했다.
