An arson incident aboard a subway train in Seoul on Saturday resulted in estimated financial damages exceeding 300 million won ($217,000), according to fire authorities on Sunday.
The fire caused significant destruction to one subway compartment and inflicted smoke damage on two others, with total damages assessed at 330 million won. Seoul Metro announced plans to pursue legal action against the suspected arsonist, who is currently in police custody, in order to seek compensation.
Additionally, the agency stated it would investigate the failure of real-time closed-circuit television footage from inside the train to be transmitted to the control center during the incident.
A total of 23 individuals were transported to hospitals for smoke inhalation, while another 129 passengers received on-site treatment for minor injuries.
Police are expected to request an arrest warrant from the prosecution for the suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, later today.

한편, 경찰은 이날 중으로 신원이 공개되지 않은 용의자에 대해 검찰에 구속 영장을 청구할 예정이다.
