Korean violinist Park Sue-ye has won the 13th International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition, one of the most prestigious competitions for the instrument globally. The results were announced following the event held in Helsinki from May 19 to 29.
"I am so happy to have won the competition," Park stated, expressing her joy at being able to communicate through her music. She received a cash prize of 30,000 euros (approximately $34,000) and a loan of a violin crafted by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini in 1777.
Minami Yoshida secured the second prize, while Claire Wells was awarded third. At 25 years old, Park is the second South Korean violinist to win this quinquennial contest, which was established in 1965 for young violinists under the age of 30. The previous South Korean winner was Yang In-mo in 2022.
Born in 2000, Park began playing the violin at age 4 and made her debut at 16 with a recording of Niccolo Paganini's 24 Caprices. In 2021, she released her album "Jour."

2000년에 태어난 박수예는 4세에 바이올린을 시작하였고, 16세에는 니콜로 파가니니의 24개의 카프리치오 녹음으로 데뷔하였다.
2021년 그녀의 앨범 "Jour into Korean"은 큰 호평을 받았다.
