Two Taiwanese nationals were recently arrested for illegally entering a U.S. Air Force base in Korea and photographing fighter jets and military facilities. This incident follows a similar occurrence involving two Chinese nationals, who were released without being detained.
According to police, the determining factor for the differing outcomes was whether the suspects had trespassed into a restricted military area. The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police reported on Wednesday that they had requested arrest warrants for the two Taiwanese individuals, aged in their 60s and 40s, who have since been detained under suspicion of violating the Protection of Military Bases and Installations Act.
In contrast, the two Chinese nationals previously investigated for the same offense were released shortly after questioning. The Taiwanese individuals reportedly entered Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek on Saturday during the "Osan Air Power Days 2025," despite being denied entry by U.S. military officials. They accessed the base by using a gate designated for Korean citizens and blended in with the crowd to gain unauthorized access. Once inside, they used telephoto lenses to photograph U.S. fighter jets and other military assets.

경기남부지방경찰청은 수요일에 60대와 40대 대만 국적자 두 명에 대해 군사기지 및 시설 보호법 위반 혐의로 구속 영장을 신청했다고 밝혔다.
대조적으로, 같은 혐의로 조사가 이루어진 두 명의 중국 국적자는 조사가 끝난 후 곧바로 석방되었다.
경찰에 따르면 대만 국적자들은 지난 토요일 평택의 오산 공군 기지에서 열린 '오산 에어 파워 데이 2025' 행사 중 미국 군 관계자에 의해 출입이 거부된에도 불구하고, 한국 시민을 위한 출입구를 이용해 군중과 섞여 불법으로 기지에 침입했다.
기지 내에 들어가자마자 그들은 망원 렌즈를 사용하여 미국 전투기를 촬영했다.
