Prosecutors have summoned former first lady Kim Keon Hee to appear for questioning regarding allegations of interference in candidate selection for elections. They have indicated that they may resort to "forcible" measures if she continues to refuse to comply.
According to the prosecution, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office issued a written request for Kim to appear as a suspect next week. This request pertains to her alleged violations of the Public Official Election Act and the Political Funds Act. The action follows Kim's failure to respond to multiple verbal and informal requests for in-person questioning in recent weeks.
It is alleged that Kim, along with her husband, former President Yoon Suk Yeol, assisted former People Power Party (PPP) lawmaker Kim Young-sun in securing the party’s nomination for a parliamentary by-election in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, in June 2022. This alleged assistance reportedly came in exchange for receiving free opinion poll services from political broker Myung Tae-kyun.
Additionally, Kim is suspected of exerting influence to aid a former prosecutor in obtaining a nomination.

김 씨는 남편인 윤석열 전 대통령과 함께 2022년 6월 경상남도 창원에서 열린 국회의원 재보궐선거에서 전 국민의힘 의원 김영선이 당 후보로 선정되는 데 개입하고, 정치 중개인인 명태균으로부터 여론 조사 서비스를 제공받았다는 혐의를 받고 있다. 또한, 그녀는 전 검사가 후보로 선정되는 데 영향을 미쳤다는 의혹도 받고 있다.
