Police have transferred two individuals to the prosecution on charges of blackmailing a prominent Korean football player with false pregnancy claims. The Gangnam Police Station announced that a woman in her 20s and a man in his 40s were sent to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office, facing charges of blackmail and attempted blackmail, respectively. Both suspects are currently in custody.
The woman, identified by the surname Yang, allegedly contacted the Tottenham Hotspur captain last June, claiming she was pregnant with his child and demanding money in exchange for her silence. Reports indicate that she sent an ultrasound image of a baby and received over 300 million won (approximately $215,000) from the player.
The man, surnamed Yong, is accused of attempting to extort 70 million won from the football star in March, although this attempt was unsuccessful. It is reported that Yong became aware of Yang's blackmail scheme while in a relationship with her.
Son Heung-min filed a complaint with the police earlier this month, asserting that Yang had blackmailed him with the false pregnancy claim. Following an investigation, the police apprehended both individuals last week and secured a court-issued warrant for their formal arrest on Saturday.
