Landers manager Lee Sung-yong expressed optimism about Kim's recent performance, noting an increase in fastball velocity and improved effectiveness with his breaking pitches. Lee highlighted Kim's enhanced pitch location during a media session at Incheon SSG Landers Field.
At 36 years old, Kim is regarded as one of the premier pitchers in the Korea Baseball Organization, boasting an MVP award and multiple Korean Series championships, along with experience in Major League Baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals. Despite a disappointing 2022 season, where he posted a career-worst 4.93 ERA over 31 starts, he managed to strike out 154 batters, marking the fourth-highest total of his career.
In May, Kim has rebounded impressively, allowing only one earned run in 13 innings across two starts. His latest outing saw him limit the Kia Tigers to just one run.
