Even two decades after its release, the Korean megahit drama “Winter Sonata” (2002) remains one of the most-watched series among Japanese audiences, reflecting the enduring appeal of K-dramas and the long shelf life of content in Japan’s drama market.
Now, Korean content production companies are shifting from passive roles to more active involvement, co-producing original Japanese dramas and aiming to establish a long-term presence.
TV Asahi is currently airing the romance thriller “Mamono,” co-produced with Korean studio SLL. The show marks SLL’s first direct collaboration with a Japanese broadcaster and was penned by Eriko Shinozaki, who adapted “My Love from the Star” for Japanese television. Directors Jin Hyeok and Choi Bo-yoon, known for their work on the Korean hit “The Tale of Lady Ok,” are also involved.
Streaming giant Amazon Prime Video will premiere another Korean-Japanese collaboration next month — “Marry My Husband,” based on a hit Korean web novel and drama. This adaptation is co-developed by Studio Dragon and CJ ENM Japan and is directed by Ahn Gil-ho of “The Glitch.”

스트리밍 거대 기업 아마존 프라임 비디오는 다음 달 또 다른 한국-일본 협업작 “내 남편과 결혼해줘”를 공개할 예정입니다. 이 드라마는 인기 한국 웹 소설과 드라마를 기반으로 하며, 스튜디오 드래곤과 CJ ENM 일본이 공동 개발하였고, “그들이 사는 세상”의 안길호 감독이 연출을 맡았습니다.
