The Hanwha Eagles, currently leading the South Korean baseball league, announced on Monday that starting shortstop Sim Woo-jun will be sidelined for several weeks due to a leg injury.
Sim sustained the injury after being hit by a pitch on his left leg during Saturday's game against the Kiwoom Heroes in Seoul. Following multiple tests conducted on Monday, he was diagnosed with a broken fibula.
The Eagles stated that Sim will be reevaluated after a two-week rest period and indicated that it may take up to four weeks before he can resume baseball activities.
At 30 years old, Sim is recognized for his defensive skills. He joined the Eagles as a free agent last November after spending nine seasons with the KT Wiz in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO). Despite a lifetime batting average of .254 and 31 home runs over 1,072 games through 2024, the Eagles signed him to a four-year contract worth 5 billion won ($3.51 million), anticipating he would serve as a vital defensive asset.
Sim has largely met expectations, ranking among the KBO's top defensive shortstops, although he has struggled offensively this season with a batting average of .170 and five extra-base hits.

심우준은 2024년까지 1,072경기에서 타율 0.254, 31홈런을 기록했으나, 한화는 그가 최근 필요했던 방어의 중심 역할을 할 수 있기를 바라며 50억 원(약 3.51백만 달러)의 4년 계약을 체결했다.
심우준은 대체로 기대에 부응하며 KBO의 최고의 수비 유격수 중 하나로 평가받고 있으며, 현재 타율은 0.170에 불과하지만 5개의 2루타 이상을 기록했다.
