Working his way back from last year's shoulder surgery, Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Kim Ha-seong could begin his rehab assignment in the minors soon. Rays manager Kevin Cash informed reporters in Tampa, Florida, that Kim could get some at-bats in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League "at the end of the week" before advancing to a higher-level affiliate for a minor league rehab assignment.
According to MLB.com, Kim participated in defensive practice on Monday, fielding grounders at shortstop, and also took part in batting practice at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa prior to the Rays' series opener against the Houston Astros.
Kim, 29, has yet to play for the Rays after signing a two-year contract as a free agent in February. He is the highest-paid player on the team this season with a salary of $13 million. If he does not opt out after this year, he is set to earn $16 million in 2026.
In October, Kim underwent surgery to repair a labral tear in his right shoulder, which he injured while diving back to first base.

김하성(29)은 2월 자유 계약 선수로 2년 계약을 체결한 이후 레이스에서 아직 경기를 하지 않았다. 2023년 내셔널 리그 골드 글러브 수상자인 김은 이번 시즌 레이스에서 가장 많은 연봉인 1300만 달러를 받고 있다. 만약 그가 올해 후 재계약을 선택하지 않으면 2026년에는 1600만 달러를 벌게 될 예정이다.
김은 첫 base에 다이빙하다가 어깨 부상을 입은 후 10월에 오른쪽 어깨의 관절봉합 수술을 받았다.
