Director Yoon Jong-bin, known for his intense portrayals of masculinity and social realities, is shifting gears with his latest project, the mystery thriller series “Nine Puzzles” on Disney+. This series marks a departure from his usual style, focusing on a complex narrative involving crime and investigation.
The storyline centers on Ena, portrayed by Kim Da-mi, who is both the sole witness and a suspect in a murder case. A decade later, she becomes a profiler and teams up with Hansaem, played by Son Suk-ku, a detective who continues to harbor suspicions about her involvement. Together, they pursue a serial killer whose activities have resurfaced after a long hiatus.
Yoon describes “Nine Puzzles” as a detective story featuring two distinct characters working to uncover the truth behind a series of murders. The narrative introduces a unique element where Ena receives a puzzle with each new murder, serving as a catalyst for unraveling the mystery of the serial killings that have reemerged after ten years.
As the nine puzzle pieces come together, the truth is gradually revealed, engaging viewers in the intricate investigation and deduction processes undertaken by Ena and Hansaem. Yoon expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that he found the script to be incredibly gripping upon his first reading.
