Lee Kang-in of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has been awarded the title of AFC Asian International Player of the Year, recognizing him as the top Asian player in foreign competitions.
The award was presented at the AFC Awards held at the King Fahad Cultural Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday (local time).
This accolade is given to the Asian player who demonstrates the best performance outside of Asia during a calendar year. Lee triumphed over competitors including Takefusa Kubo, a Japanese midfielder for Real Sociedad, and Mehdi Taremi, an Iranian forward for Olympiacos.
Lee is the third South Korean to receive this honor since its inception in 2012, joining previous winners Son Heung-min, who has won the award four times, and Kim Min-jae.
During the 2024-2025 season with PSG, Lee participated in 49 matches across all competitions, scoring seven goals. His contributions helped PSG achieve a historic continental treble, making them the first French team to win the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, and French Cup titles, while also finishing as runners-up at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Lee was unable to attend the award ceremony due to PSG's ongoing season commitments. He was the sole South Korean nominee at this year's AFC Awards.

이강인은 목요일(현지 시간) 사우디 아라비아 리야드의 킹 파하드 문화센터에서 열린 AFC 시상식에서 아시아 축구 연맹(AFC) 아시아 국제 선수상을 수상했다.
이 상은 주어진 달력 연도 동안 대륙 밖에서 가장 뛰어난 성과를 낸 아시아 선수에게 수여된다. 이강인은 레알 소시에다드의 일본 미드필더 다케후사 쿠보와 그의 전 동료인 스페인 마요르카의 메흐디 타레미를 누르고 수상의 영예를 안았다.
이강인은 2012년에 처음 수여된 이 상의 세 번째 한국인 수상자로, 손흥민(2015, 2017, 2019, 2023)과 김민재(2022)가 이전 수상자이다.
2024-2025 시즌 PSG에서 이강인은 모든 대회에서 49경기에 출전하여 7골을 기록했다. 이 미드필더는 PSG가 UEFA 챔피언스 리그, 리그 1 및 프랑스 컵 타이틀을 모두 획득하며 유럽 대회에서 최초로 3관왕에 오른 데 기여했다. 그들은 FIFA 클럽 월드컵에서 준우승을 차지했다.
