The heads of Korea’s four major financial groups — KB, Shinhan, Hana, and Woori — will travel to Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, to attend the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit, industry officials announced on Friday.
The executives are anticipated to explore global market trends and actively promote Korea’s financial industry on the international stage.
Approximately 1,700 business leaders from 21 countries are expected to attend the event, with notable participants including the CEOs of Nvidia, Amazon Web Services, and Citi.
According to industry sources, the chairmen of the four financial groups will attend the opening ceremony of the APEC CEO Summit on Wednesday, accompanied by their respective bank CEOs.
Expanding global networks and gaining the confidence of international investors have become top priorities for Korea’s financial holding companies, as their stock prices remain sluggish despite expectations that the benchmark KOSPI could reach the 4,000-point mark within the year.
As of Thursday, foreign ownership in KB Financial was at 77.2 percent, followed by Shinhan Financial at 59.9 percent, with Hana Financial and Woori Financial reporting foreign ownership levels of 68.2 percent and 48 percent, respectively.
Business momentum has been hindered by increasing headwinds, including tighter government regulations on household lending. As this key profit stream declines, global operations are increasingly viewed as a vital growth engine for Korea’s major financial groups.
Consequently, the chairmen’s overseas engagements have increased in recent months, aligning with their broader commitment to enhance corporate value through improved transparency and shareholder-friendly policies.
During the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Annual Meetings held from October 13-18, these chairmen organized separate investor relations sessions to strengthen connections with global investors, emphasizing the government’s "productive finance" initiative that prioritizes corporate investment over real estate development.
Earlier in September, Chairmen Jin and Ham participated in high-level investor relations events in New York as part of President Lee Jae Myung’s delegation, aimed at promoting Korea’s financial competitiveness.
Industry officials expect that with top-level foreign dignitaries and global CEOs in attendance, the chairmen will gain insights into market trends and expand their international networks at the event.

9월 초에는 회장 진옥동과 함영주가 이재명 대통령의 뉴욕 방문단에 참여하여 한국의 금융 경쟁력을 홍보하는 고위급 투자자 관계 행사에 참석했다.
업계 관계자는 "해외 고위 인사와 글로벌 CEO들이 참석하는 만큼, 회장들은 시장 트렌드를 파악하고 국제 네트워크를 확장할 것으로 기대된다"고 말했다.
