Tire damage was identified as the cause of an accident involving a KF-16 fighter jet that veered off the runway at an air base earlier this week, according to a statement from the Air Force on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:38 p.m. on Tuesday at the air base located in Chungju, as the single-seat fighter jet was preparing for a training flight. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as a result of the incident.
The Air Force indicated that the runway excursion was due to damage to the nose gear tire, which was caused by a foreign object. The pilot of the aircraft recognized the issue and attempted to halt the takeoff in accordance with established procedures; however, the tire defect hindered the pilot's ability to control the aircraft's direction, leading to the runway excursion.
The Air Force confirmed that all KF-16 aircraft will resume operations starting Thursday, as no additional technical issues were detected with the aircraft.

공군은 조종사가 문제를 감지하고 관련 절차에 따라 비행기를 정지시키려 했지만, 타이어 결함으로 인해 방향 제어에 어려움이 있어 전투기가 활주로를 이탈했다고 설명하였다.
모든 KF-16 항공기는 해당 항공기에 기술적 문제가 발견되지 않았기 때문에 목요일부터 운항을 재개한다고 덧붙였다.
