The presidential office has initiated a comprehensive review of fire safety measures in residential buildings following the tragic deaths of two young girls in a Busan apartment fire on Wednesday. This incident highlights a concerning pattern, as it follows another similar tragedy that occurred just a week prior.
During a press briefing, a spokesperson for the president stated that the chief of staff directed the head of the Office for Government Policy Coordination to implement rigorous follow-up measures in response to these incidents. High-level officials and staff have been sent to Busan to offer condolences to the grieving family and to investigate the structural causes contributing to these recurring fires.
The victims, two sisters aged 8 and 6, were discovered deceased after a fire erupted at 10:58 p.m. on the sixth floor of their apartment building in Gijang, a northeastern district of Busan. Autopsy results released on Friday indicated that their deaths were due to the inhalation of toxic gases.

화재는 부산 동북부 기장구의 6층에서 밤 10시 58분에 발생했으며, 사망한 두 자매는 각각 8세와 6세였다. 금요일 부검 결과, 이들의 사망 원인은 유독 가스를 흡입한 것으로 나타났다.
화재는 부모가 한국에 가기 위해 집을 나선 지 20분 후에 발생했다.
