A day after transferring to Pohang Steelers, midfielder Ki Sung-yueng expressed his intentions to make the most of what is likely his final season in the K League 1 during his introductory press conference on Friday.
Ki, who recently parted ways with FC Seoul, the only club he had represented in South Korea for the past decade, cited a desire for more playing time as a key reason for his move. The 36-year-old had fallen out of favor with the team's head coach, leading to limited appearances in the ongoing season.
Having played only eight out of FC Seoul's first 20 matches, Ki's departure was confirmed after he requested a transfer. His career with FC Seoul spanned from 2006 to 2009 and resumed in 2020, culminating in a total of 218 matches for the club across all competitions.
Ki remarked on his positive initial experiences in Pohang, located approximately 270 kilometers southeast of Seoul, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome he received from the local community.
