After a six-month hiatus, the Royal Asiatic Society (RAS) Korea has announced its return, scheduled for May, along with a comprehensive lineup of upcoming lectures and excursions.
The organization aims to reestablish itself by collaborating with familiar figures, as it represents the world's oldest English-language Korean studies organization. VanVolkenburg, one of the remaining officers, has taken on the responsibility of organizing the lectures and cultural excursions.
VanVolkenburg expressed appreciation for the efforts of president Denny Park and office manager Joanne Hong in securing funding and legal registration, which contributed to the revival of RAS Korea. He noted that while the process took longer than anticipated, the team wanted to present a list of activities upon relaunching, leading to a hurried search for speakers and excursion leaders.
He acknowledged the challenges posed by the short notice for the first lecture but opted to expand upon a previous presentation he had given as a solution.

이번 강연과 엑스커션의 대부분은 RAS 한국의 정기 참여자들로 구성되어 있어, 세계에서 가장 오래된 영어로 된 한국 연구 단체로서 RAS 한국이 신뢰할 수 있는 인물들과 협력하며 재정비를 목표로 하고 있다는 점은 놀라운 일이 아니다.
활동을 재개하며, RAS 한국의 남은 임직원 중 한 명인 반볼켄부르크는 강연 및 문화 엑스커션 조직 작업을 맡았다. 그는 "대니 박 회장과 조안 홍 사무국장이 자금 확보와 법적 등록을 위해 열심히 일한 결과가 이번 재출시를 통해 드디어 결실을 맺은 것을 보게 되어 기쁘다. 비록 예상보다 시간이 더 걸리긴 했지만,"이라고 말했다.
그는 "우리가 재출시할 때 예정된 활동 목록을 갖고 싶었기 때문에 연사와 엑스커션 리더를 빠르게 찾는 것이 급하게 진행됐다. 신속하게 Commitment해 준 분들께 감사하지만, 첫 강연에 대한 통지가 늦어 schedule을 조정하는 것이 어려웠다. 그래서 내가 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 해결책으로 예전에 한국어로 발표했던 내용을 수정하고 확장하기로 결정했다."라고 덧붙였다.
