On Thursday, the president nominated a former Supreme Court justice as the new chief of the Constitutional Court, according to the presidential office.
Former Supreme Court Justice Kim Sang-hwan was selected to replace acting Constitutional Court President Kim Hyung-du, who is the longest-serving member of the current justices on the court.
Additionally, the president appointed Oh Young-joon, the presiding judge of the Seoul High Court, to join the court's nine-member bench, as announced by the presidential chief of staff.
The president also nominated Lim Kwang-hyun, a lawmaker from the ruling Democratic Party of Korea, to serve as commissioner of the National Tax Service.
All nominees are required to undergo parliamentary confirmation hearings prior to their formal appointments by the president; however, they do not need parliamentary approval to assume their roles.
