The top military officers of South Korea and the United States have committed to enhancing trilateral security cooperation with Japan during their inaugural video talks earlier this week, as reported by South Korea's military on Wednesday.
Adm. Kim Myung-soo, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), and U.S. Gen. John Daniel Caine conducted the discussions on Tuesday, marking their first engagement since Caine assumed his position last month.
According to a statement from the JCS, the two leaders agreed to bolster the momentum of trilateral security cooperation through the upcoming South Korea-U.S.-Japan Trilateral Chief of Defense meeting scheduled for July.
The three nations have recently intensified their collaborative security efforts through joint military exercises in response to escalating nuclear and missile threats from North Korea.
During the talks, Kim and Caine emphasized the necessity of developing capabilities and strategies to effectively address the advancing threats from North Korea, particularly in light of Pyongyang's increasing collaboration with Moscow.

JCS는 발표를 통해 "7월 한국에서 예정된 한미일 국방장관 회의를 통해 삼국 간의 안보 협력의 모멘텀을 더욱 강화하기로 합의했다"고 밝혔다.
세 국가는 최근 북한의 핵 및 미사일 위협 증가에 대응하기 위해 공동 군사 훈련을 통해 삼각 안보 협력을 강화하고 있다. 김 의장과 케인은 또한 북한의 위협에 효과적으로 대응하기 위한 능력과 태세의 구축의 중요성을 강조했다.
북한은 모스크바와의 협력이 확대됨에 따라 더욱 진전된 위협을 제기하고 있는 것으로 의심받고 있다.
