A polling station in central Seoul’s Euljiro area was bustling with voters on Thursday morning as the two-day early voting period for the June 3 presidential election commenced at 3,568 voting sites nationwide.
Voters not registered in the district faced approximately a 30-minute wait to reach the booths, while a separate line was available for district residents. After presenting their resident registration cards and scanning their fingerprints for identification, voters received a ballot and an envelope to seal it in.
Once inside the booths, voters marked their choices, placed their folded ballots in envelopes, and sealed them with stickers. Election observers monitored the entire process to ensure transparency.
Despite differing preferences for candidates, voters underscored the importance of participating in democracy, expressing hopes that the next president would revitalize the struggling economy. One voter remarked, “You need to vote if you want a better country. That’s why I came out this morning.”

선호하는 후보는 달랐지만, 유권자들은 민주주의 참여의 중요성을 강조하며 다음 대통령이 어려운 경제를 회복해주기를 바라는 마음을 전했다. 한 70세의 인쇄 노동자는 “더 나은 나라를 원한다면 투표해야 한다. 그래서 오늘 아침에 나왔다”며 자신의 투표 참여 이유를 밝혔다. “이번 선거가 한국에 도움을 주길 희망합니다.”
