Subway trains in Seoul will begin operating at 5 a.m. starting in August, advancing their schedule by 30 minutes to better accommodate early commuters, according to the Seoul metropolitan government.
Previously, early workers relied on intracity buses for transportation, but the revised timetable aims to facilitate smoother transfers from buses to subways during the early morning hours, city officials stated.
This new schedule will specifically apply to subway routes within Seoul. Additionally, the last subway train will arrive 30 minutes earlier to allow for necessary maintenance work.
The city plans to engage with the Korea Railroad Corp. (KORAIL) and the Airport Railroad (AREX) to potentially extend the earlier schedule to subway services in the greater Seoul area.
Furthermore, the operation of late-night self-driving buses will be expanded to cover the 10 busiest stops in the city during early hours, as announced by city officials.

서울시는 한국철도공사(KORAIL)와 공항철도(AREX)와 협의하여 수도권 지하철에도 이른 스케줄을 적용할 계획이다.
또한, 시 관계자들에 따르면, 새벽 시간대에는 시내 10개 주요 정류소에서 심야 자율주행 버스의 운영도 확대될 것이다.
