The SSG Landers announced on Sunday the signing of former major leaguer Ryan McBroom as a short-term replacement for injured outfielder Guillermo Heredia.
McBroom, who is capable of playing both first base and right field, has signed a contract worth $75,000, according to the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) club.
In 2024, the KBO implemented a policy allowing clubs to sign foreign players as temporary replacements for injured incumbents who are expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks.
Heredia, the reigning KBO batting champion, recently underwent a procedure for folliculitis in his right thigh. However, a subsequent complication will necessitate approximately six weeks of rehabilitation, as reported by the Landers.
McBroom has played 66 major league games, all with the Kansas City Royals from 2019 to 2021, where he recorded six home runs, 16 RBIs, and a .268 batting average. During the 2021 season, he spent most of his time in Triple-A, leading his league with 32 home runs.
In 2022 and 2023, McBroom played for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in Nippon Professional Baseball, achieving 23 home runs and an on-base plus slugging of .749.
