Regulations for Online Platforms Postponed Until After Lee-Trump Summit

Regulations concerning online platforms in South Korea will be postponed until after the upcoming summit between the leaders of South Korea and the United States, which is set to include discussions on economic cooperation and digital issues.

Civic organizations recently held a press conference outside the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, where they called on the government and legislators to prioritize legislation aimed at regulating online platforms. These groups expressed concerns over the growing influence of these platforms on public discourse and consumer rights.

The delay in the regulatory process has drawn criticism from advocacy groups, who argue that immediate action is necessary to address issues such as data privacy and monopolistic practices in the digital space.

Officials have indicated that they intend to review the regulations thoroughly post-summit, aiming to align any new policies with international standards and practices.
