Major Korean shipbuilders have launched a joint task force to enhance collaboration with the United States following a recently agreed large-scale investment project in the U.S. shipbuilding sector, officials announced on Sunday.
The top three shipbuilders—HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, Hanwha Ocean, and Samsung Heavy Industries—along with the Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Association, have established the task force and held its inaugural meeting. The primary focus will be on supporting the "Make American Shipbuilding Great Again" (MASGA) initiative, under which the South Korean government has proposed a $150 billion investment in the U.S. shipbuilding industry.
This initiative is part of a broader $350 billion investment package aimed at securing a reduction in reciprocal tariffs on Korean imports from 25 percent to 15 percent. An official stated, "There will be various ways to implement the Korea-U.S. shipbuilding cooperation, and the task force aims to support and facilitate those efforts." The shipbuilding industry is collaborating closely with the government to advance these objectives.

이것은 미국에 대한 총 3500억 달러 투자 패키지의 일환으로, 미국이 한국 수입품에 대한 상호 관세를 25%에서 15%로 낮추는 것과 관련이 있다.
한 관계자는 “한미 조선업 협력 구현을 위한 다양한 방법이 있을 것이며, 태스크포스는 이러한 노력을 지원하고 촉진하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다”고 말했다.
“업계가 정부와 함께 협력하고 있다”고 덧붙였다.
