Yang Hyun-suk, founder and chief producer of YG Entertainment, has been sentenced to a suspended prison term by the Supreme Court for intimidating a whistleblower in connection with rapper BI's drug allegations. The court, led by Justice Ma Yong-ju, upheld a previous ruling that sentenced Yang to six months in prison, with one year of probation, for coercing a meeting under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
Yang was accused of pressuring Han Seo-hee, a former trainee, who reported to police in 2016 that BI, whose real name is Kim Han-bin, had attempted to purchase illegal drugs. It was alleged that Yang sought to silence Han and discourage her from cooperating with authorities to hinder further investigation into BI.
Initially, Yang faced charges of retaliatory intimidation, but he was acquitted of that charge in the first trial. However, the appeals court introduced a lesser charge of coercing a meeting, which ultimately resulted in a guilty verdict that has now been confirmed by the Supreme Court.
YG 엔터테인먼트의 창립자이자 수장인 양현석이 래퍼 비아이의 마약 혐의를 감추기 위해 내부 고발자를 불법적으로 위협한 혐의로 대법원으로부터 집행유예 판결을 받았다.
대법원은 마용주 재판관이 주재한 가운데, 금요일에 하급법원의 판결을 유지하며 양현석에게 특정범죄 가중처벌법 위반으로 6개월의 징역형과 1년의 집행유예를 선고했다.
양현석은 2016년 비아이(본명 김한빈)가 불법 마약 구매를 시도했다며 경찰에 진술한 전 연습생 한서희를 압박하고 위협한 것으로 보도됐다.
그는 한서희의 말을 묵살하고 그녀가 당국과의 협조를 포기하도록 유도하여 비아이에 대한 추가 수사를 방해하려 했던 것으로 전해진다.
검찰은 처음에 양현석을 같은 법률에 따라 보복 위협으로 기소했지만, 1심에서 무죄를 선고받았다. 항소심에서는 회의 강요라는 경미한 혐의가 추가되어 최종적으로 유죄 판결이 내려졌으며, 이는 대법원에서 확인되었다.
