Hanwha Ocean, a prominent South Korean shipbuilder, has secured a contract to provide maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for the U.S. Navy ship Charles Drew, according to industry sources.
The company won the U.S. Navy's regular MRO project for the Charles Drew, a dry cargo and ammunition ship assigned to the Navy's 7th Fleet. The non-combat vessel is slated to arrive at Hanwha Ocean's Geoje shipyard, located approximately 330 kilometers southeast of Seoul, later this month, with plans for delivery back to the U.S. Navy by the end of the year.
This contract marks the third time Hanwha has secured an MRO project for a U.S. Navy vessel. In August of the previous year, it became the first South Korean shipbuilder to obtain such a contract, which was for the Navy's logistics support ship Wally Schirra. Additionally, in November, the company won an MRO deal for the replenishment oiler Yukon.

이 회사는 해군의 제7함대에 배속된 건화물 및 탄약 수송선인 찰스 드류의 정기 MRO 프로젝트를 수주했다.
비전투선인 찰스 드류는 이달 말에 서울에서 약 330킬로미터 남동쪽에 위치한 한화오션 거제 조선소에 도착할 예정이며, 연말까지 미국 해군에 인도될 예정이다.
이로써 한화는 미국 해군 선박의 MRO 프로젝트를 수주한 세 번째 사례가 된다.
지난해 8월에는 해군의 물자 지원선인 월리 시라의 MRO 계약을 체결하며 한국 조선업체로는 최초로 이러한 계약을 확보한 바 있다.
이어 11월에는 보급유정 유콘에 대한 MRO 계약도 수주했다.
