Veteran actor Lee Byung-hun has been chosen to host the opening ceremony of the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), as announced by the organizing committee on Monday.
This milestone edition of BIFF is scheduled to take place over 10 days, from September 17 to 26, at various venues in the southern port city of Busan, with the Busan Cinema Center serving as the main hub.
Lee's association with BIFF dates back to 2003, and his selection for this role marks a historic first, as he will be the first male host to lead the opening ceremony solo. In 2023, Park Eun-bin made history as the first woman to host the ceremony alone.
According to the organizers, Lee's involvement is expected to transcend the role of a traditional host. They noted, “The 30th Busan International Film Festival's opening ceremony will be a turning point, redefining the festival's identity and direction. Lee's presence at this meaningful moment will create a special stage that connects audiences and filmmakers as one.”
