LG Electronics announced on Tuesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute to enhance the safety of AI technology and ensure compliance with international regulations.
The MOU, which aims to bolster cooperation in addressing global AI regulations, was signed on Monday at LG Twin Tower in Seoul. The Korea Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute was established in November of the previous year under the government-funded Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute to assess risks associated with AI models and to develop technologies for risk prevention and mitigation.
This institute represents Korean AI safety research organizations and related entities on a global scale. Through the MOU, LG Electronics intends to expedite its initiatives to ensure the safety of AI technologies in its products and services, in collaboration with the institute.
Additionally, LG Electronics aims to establish communication channels with key AI-related institutions and working groups within international organizations and to jointly address global regulations, including those from the European Union.

MOU는 양측의 글로벌 AI 규제 대응 협력을 강화하기 위한 것으로, 서울 LG 트윈 타워에서 월요일에 체결되었다.
이 연구소는 지난해 11월 전자통신연구원 산하의 정부 지원 기관으로 출범하였으며, AI 모델과 관련된 위험을 평가하고 이러한 위험을 예방 및 완화하기 위한 기술을 연구하는 역할을 한다.
연구소는 전 세계 한국 AI 안전 연구소와 관련 기관을 대표하고 있다.
이번 MOU를 통해 LG 전자는 연구소와의 협의를 통해 자사 제품과 서비스의 AI 기술 안전성을 보장하기 위한 노력을 가속화할 계획이다.
LG 전자는 또한 국제기구의 주요 AI 관련 기관 및 워킹 그룹과의 소통 경로를 확보하고, 유럽연합(EU) 등 글로벌 규제에 공동으로 대응하고자 한다.
